Pacific Golf Club: A proud history and prosperous future
The launch of Fairway Carindale starts an exciting new chapter in the 87-year history of Pacific Golf Club.
Pacific Golf Club in Carindale is one of Brisbane’s premier golf clubs, located only 15 minutes from the Brisbane CBD and Brisbane airport. Founded by J.L. (Leo) Mc Intryre, the club started as a modest nine-hole course in Upper Mount Gravatt. The Pacific Highway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast practically went past the original clubhouse, which is how the club got its name.
Mr McIntyre purchased land on Kessels Road in Upper Mount Gravatt and transformed it into a nine-hole layout with grass greens. He went on to officially open the club on April 3, 1937.
Operating from an old timber clubhouse building, Leo did everything from greenkeeping and bartending to organising tournaments and acting as Club secretary. He still found time to be Club Champion!
Sadly, the “old Pacific” suffered during the war as memberships reduced and funds were too low to allow for course improvements. However, the club was fortunate enough to have a dedicated group of people committed to bringing Leo’s vision to life.
The rewards came with the golfing boom of the early sixties and the relocation to Pacific Golf Club’s present location on Pine Mountain Road, Carindale.
The new club was officially opened on February 29, 1964, and has gone from strength to strength with a well-established course and a thriving membership. The club provides a beautiful natural setting where players can play a relaxing game of golf on either the main 18-hole course or the 9-hole Par 3 course.
An exciting new chapter
In a milestone moment for the club and local community, Pacific Golf Club will receive an exciting upgrade as part of Reside Communities’ Fairway Carindale project.
The planned new clubhouse will be a luxurious facility with a new restaurant, café and bar, a putt-putt course, golf simulator, new practice facilities, upgrades to the Par 3 course, a new driving range and improved parking.
